Super skulpty s multipart modely s obrovskou variabilitou. Aenor Miniatures je one man show s nádhernými ručně dělanými skulpty s klasickou fantasy tématikou říznutou Black Moon Chronicles stylem.
Forgotten Realms: The Crystal Shard, Larry Elmore via WOTC
Ilyad Games, Sorceress, Roman "Jarhead" Lappat
English version
Every such
list is mirror of the authors’ opinion and current influences and mood.
Nevertheless my top list is the same for the several years, now some positions
are threatened by Cran Tara. Also the list is of the 28mm (1/56 scale) only. And
is limited by choice of models I ever have in my hands.
Avanpost
leads the way by far. Those are the best models I ever lay my hands on in this
scale. I would say that they are far better than some bigger 40mm or 54mm
models. Excellent, very detailed, yet easy to paint models. The cast with
almost no mold lines, no bubbles and clean. Unbelievable good price for resin and
acceptable price for metal. Do you know they cast metal rods to you flagpoles
in resin?
Other Russians
in the list is VnV Miniatures and Klukva. What Avanpost is for Napoleonics and
TYW, the VNV is for Medieval. What has been said above about is valid also for
VnV Miniatures. Klukva is more about fantasy, sci-fi, comics and PC game. But
the cast is great. Actually the resin cast from Russia is way better anything I
get on West (the others I go tis Brother Vinnie or Signum Game)
Between the
Russians are two British companies. HF Minis struggled with customer service
for a time, however they have one huge advantage that of the Master Artist Kev
White sculpting more than 90% of their production (others are for example
Sylvain Quirion).
And
Claymore Casting. They are there not for their sculpt of the King of Bohemia,
just because their models are bloody awesome. Full of character, yet not
caricatures like sometimes Foundry is. I love the poses, they are very dynamic
and well...I like them very much.
Victrix is
currently the best producer of plastic models apart from Games Workshop. I have
had in my hands their late dark ages Vikings and Celts and the level of detail,
and options how to build the models is above any other non-GW plastic
producers. May be the Wargames Atlantic are very near to it.
Sylvain
Quirion – Aenor – is sculptor, his little studio offers very nice models again
with a nice selection of fantasy models. Again I prefer models of Characters.
Dark Sword
and Reaper are big companies and as usual for big companies something is good,
other is not so good. Both I my favourite thanks to the ties to the Dungeons
and Dragons from Larry Elmore’s second edition with Todd Lockwood’s third to
digital orgy fourth and fifth Edition of DnD. Reaper has Pathfinder, which is
my current RPG of choice. Both offer wide selection of models for RPG and
Wargame as well.
Red Box
Games another one man show studio with true28 sized fantasy models, inspired by
classic Sword and Sorcery. Excellent models. Tre is sculpting for Dark Sword
and Reaper as well.
Special
Category
I like
Frontrank. 60% of my Russians are Frontrank. Why they are not on the list?
Because they have other qualities then being the best out there.
Games
Workshop. I don’t like the company, I don’t like their games, and I don’t like
majority of their models, I don’t like their pricing policy. . Nevertheless
their plastic models are best on the market. But are they really six time
better then let’s say Victrix Vikings as the price suggests?
Rest in
Peace Category
Illyad
Games and Rackham would normally occupy TOP5 on the list. Both are death now. A
lot of sculptors have their own studios, or work for other companies. A lot of
companies are copying their style, but they were unique and I love them.
What a fascinating perspective, especially as it's so different from my Top Ten for 2022. Indeed, I must confess to not knowing some of the companies you mention. I do though own a fair few HF and Rackham, but have yet to find the mojo to spur me on to painting them. My own Top Five are (1) Crooked Dice, (2) Games Workshop, (3) Warlord Games, (4) Encounter Terrain & (5) Battlefront Miniatures - a pretty consistent list from 2021 tbh.
