FUBAR - First try and Battle Report

Recently I have found on the internet an amazing thing. It's called FUBAR and it's a free to play wargame written on a single page of paper. Written by Craig Cartmell, Minister of Gentlemanly Warfare. I have decided to try this game! So I did and here goes the battle report:

Clone Wars - Assassination

The game is designed for fighting in units. I have put together what I found came up with the following forces.

Obi-Wan Kenobi and Anakin Skywalker
Elite, armed with Lightsabre (Range 0"; 3 Firepoints), Force Push (Range 8"; 1 FP) and 3+ Armor

Clone Commando
Veteran, 2x Blaster Rifle (Assault Rifle), Sniper Rifle, Grenade Launcher
Armour 4+

2x Clone Squad
Seasoned, 4x Blaster Rifle, Heavy Blaster Rifle (LMG)
Armour 5+

Republic Strike Force

Count Dooku
Elite, Lightsaber, Force Lightning (Range 8"; 3 FP)
Armour 3+

General Grievous and Bodyguards
Grievous is Elite, Lightsaber, Armour 3+
Bodyguards are Veterans with electrostaff (R0"/1FP)

B1 Battle Droids Squad
Seasoned, Blaster Rifle, Armour 6+

2xB2 Super Battle Droid Squad
Seasoned, Submachine Gun, Armour 4+

Separatist Command

The jedi knights have been tasked with cutting the head of the snake. In the jungles of Felucia, they prepared an ambush. I have played on the table 2'7"x 2'7" with some jungle terrain. Both sides deployed 3" from the opposite table edge, only Grievous with his MagnaGuards were 6" in advance (careless general). Both forces were about 300 points.

I have played with such a small squads so the individual characters would make a difference. I was quite wrong. Even a small squad can take down a single character quite easily. But let's get to that later. One more thing, I have played for both sides (the only way to ensure victory).

Turn 1

Separatist activated first, I wanted to push forward with B2 squad but rolled 1 and gave way to the Republic. Kenobi and Skywalker ran forward and hid behind the rock. Prepared to attack Grievous.

Then the Clone Commando moved forward to cover the jedi. Unfortunatelly, Yellow Squad failed to activate and stayed on guard. This gave opportunity for the second squad of B2 to activate. They moved slowly forward and opened fire on the waiting jedi...

"I'm FUBAR!"

Next, Grievous went forward and emerged from the other side of the rock, looking menicingly to Obi-Wan. Count Dooku, moved on the right flank of the Separatist force, aside from the heat of battle.

Dark Lord in the sunset
B1 squad walked slowly forward and that was it for Separatists. Only one squad was yet to activate, Clone Squad Blue. Which failed of course.

Turn 2

Second turn was brutal. Separatists act first again and Grievous went for the kill and charged Kenobi (Skywalker was Suppressed). It was quite a battle as Obi-Wan managed to cut down both bodyguards but they bought time for General to strike down the jedi knight. Then Separatists failed to activate B2 squad on the left wing and Clone Commando fullfiled it's duty, taking out General Grievous. Some more activations and fails... at the end of turn, Dooku electrocuted two members of the Commando.

Turn 3

In turn three B1 squad fired on the two remaining commandos. Only the boss survived the volley. Dooku tried to burn him alive but his armour absorbed the force lightning. B2 squas on the left wing failed again and it was time for clones to do their grisly job. Yellow Squad moved so they have clear shot on Dooku and took it...

"All guns, fire!"

Count of Sereno turned to face them and with several flashes of his lightsaber...

...deflected all the shots.

The other squad however, were much more successful and shot the count to the back, killing him instantly.

"Good job, Blue Squad"

This ended the scenario and my first test of this cool ruleset.

The game is not perfect. How could it be while on the single page of paper. But it is runing smoothly, it's simple and quick. Values I appreciate on wargames. To write armies took about 20 minutes (writing from scratch). The activation system is very nice and complex in it's simplicity. Great work Mr. Cartmell.
